Vaccinations update

Community Health Workers are getting vaccinated in Petén! We are happy that the dedicated CHWs who work with Petén Health can now get vaccinated to protect themselves against the latest surge of Covid-19 which is sweeping the region. The progress is slowed by lack of distributed vaccine options: CHWs must travel to El Naranjo to get the jab.

As everywhere, Delta variant has been raging out of control in Guatemala, with few vaccinated. Public suspicion that the repeated shutdowns are manipulated by the government means masks and other precautions are ignored. Public hospitals are full with medical staff overwhelmed and lacking treatment options. Our recent news is that the number of sick and dying seems to be diminishing somewhat; this wave has run its course.
